D-Erania

She's
been called the "goddess of sound", understandably
so, EverLove Music recording artist D-Erania not only plays
saxophone, piano and sings; her music captivates audiences to
the point of being nearly hypnotized. She can grab your
attention and then take you someplace wonderful with her
unique soulful jazz.
"Jahari's Home", the first single from her just
released debut CD "Offerings" features D-Erania's
smooth sensual saxophone soaring on a bed of warm keyboards
and honey dipped strings, deep-pocketed percussion and a funky
bass/drum groove. She wrote this piece as a tribute to her
first-born child, Jahari. "I wrote this song the day we
came home from the hospital, it came from the love of his
homecoming.
Heartfelt and imaginative, D-Erania's music celebrates the
richness of Black music; firmly rooted in the r&b
tradition of the 70's her music is romantic and timeless,
reflecting the spontaneity of jazz and the distinct vibe of
today.
The youngest of seven, D-Erania grew up listening to her
older siblings play: Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder and
George Clinton. Yet her deepest influence is her mother, who
introduced her to music while carrying her for nine months.
"My first instrument was my mother's piano, which I began
playing at 3 and I fondly remember my mother playing and
singing gospel songs to me as a young child."
D-Erania's music has the ability to touch the souls of its
listeners because the true foundation of her music comes from
love.
At 19 her brother's abandoned alto-saxopohone was her next
musical triumph. "I've been so fortunate; very early on
my horn took me all over the world. I've toured Asia,
Australia, Europe, Canada, Mexico and most of America."
And when she wasn't on tour or playing saxophone she was
usually playing organ in church.
It was this usual setting in the spring of 2000 that led to
her meeting drummer extraordinaire, Anthony Morgan. "We
were playing at church and during church services we would add
musical elements from other places into the standard material.
Our playfulness led to us experimenting outside of
church", states Anthony. D-Erania adds, "Tony is one
of the most distinctive drummers I've ever worked with and a
great vocalist."
The combination of D-Erania and Tony set the stage for the
addition of the elegant pianist/keyboardist Derrick Bounds and
then the prodigious percussionist, Sammie Torres.
"Sammie's drumming solidifies the passion of both Africa
and Latin American in what we do, " states Anthony.
"Derrick adds a certain charm to the music," adds
D-Erania and finally the talent of bassist Tony Meadors
completes the band.
"He is an incredible musician. I am constantly taken
aback by his ability," she continues, "together this
band brings out the best in me, they complete my musical
vision. I can't tell you how much I appreciate them."
