Anthony Phillips, affectionately called A.P. is opening eyes and making noise in the music industry. This was proven when he showed up and showed out at the Chicago Idol contest
last summer. His rendition of Keith Washington's "Kissing You" landed him a spot in the finals where he wooed judges R. Kelly and Syleena Johnson and walked away with 3rd place, a plaque and $500.
Since appearing in Chicago Idol his sultry sound and captivating vocal range has grabbed the attention of several record labels and promoters and under the guidance of Tony Allen and Two Fingers Entertainment A.P. is well on his way to becoming a household name.
Born and raised on Chicago's west side, he became a member of the Garfield Park Angelic Choir at the age of 6 and credits his mother with getting him started, "She is my inspiration, she made me sing", he says.
A.P. has a strong love for gospel music however his style of choice is a combination of Jazz and R&B. His musical talent projects his inner spirit and is reminiscent of Teddy Pendergrass and Marvin Gaye. In the future he would love to make a song with Patti Labelle because in his words "Patti has the voice, the stage presence and the overall personality".
A.P.'s advice for up and coming artist is "Never give up because once you stop believing you can do it, everybody else is going to stop believing you can do it. So never give up and put God first in everything you do".
American Idol may have Ruben Studdard but Chicago Idol has its own singing "Teddy Bear" and his name is Anthony Phillips.
