Gerald McQuirter

Gerald McQuirter is a very busy man these days and soon he will be a household name. From his cameo in the 93 film “How You Like Me Now” starring Darnell Williams & Sally Richardson, to his lead role in a film due out later this year entitled “The Evil One”, this comedian/ actor/ writer has been doing his thing.

Though he resides in Chicago, this all around entertainer hails from Clinton, MS, and has also lived in 14 states & 2 countries.  Growing up he knew that being an entertainer was what he wanted to do.  “ I’ve been performing all my life and really couldn’t see myself in any other profession.” He also adds that, “when I was growing up in Mississippi, we didn’t have the avenues or mechanisms that are essential to explore any of the arts and entertainment field to the degree that you do in the big city.”

After a stint in the Air Force, Gerald traveled to Chicago when he was “about 28 or 29” and started performing professionally in ’91.  Some of his credits include “Ricochet”, starring Denzel Washington, “ Curly Sue”, "Rapstarz" and “Barbershop”, just to name a few.  Along with film, television and stage work he also does a lot of Industrial and Print work in Chicago.

He doesn’t feel that the Chicago film community is as strong as it could be and thinks that runaway productions may help the powers that be to see the error in their ways. “Chicago has been ostracized for a long time with the entertainment industry and I guess the worlds knows that by the fact that ‘Chicago’ was shot in Toronto” he says. The fact that Chicago was filmed in Toronto may have opened some eyes and lead to local laws being repealed in an effort to draw more productions to the city. “We really don’t have a huge market here with the film industry, but we’re blessed that the new laws have incentives for people to come here to shoot pictures opposed to going to Canada and shooting pictures, so this year is looking really promising” he asserts.

This year is already looking promising for Mr. McQuirter, as his latest project, “The Evil One”, is due out later this year.  The movie is based on a true story about a man named H.H Holmes who was supposed to be the first serial killer in America.  In the late 1800’s, Gerald plays officer Granberrry, who has an early encounter with the serial killer’s grandson, as people are being gruesomely murdered and Officer Granberry is called in to solve the crime and the mystery of where it came from.

So be on the lookout for that and future projects because the sky’s the limit for this multi-talented entertainer and soon his McQuarters will turn into McDollars.
